Meet Our Newest Team Member – Sadie Bjornsen Maubet

13 years ago, I was first drawn to Alaska as a Seawolf. Having grown up in a family of five, I learned pretty early how to go after what I wanted. At a young age, if we weren’t running around the mountains like little billy goats, we were on the construction site pounding nails with my parents’ construction business. I quickly picked up a work ethic that guided me to earning a spot on the UAA Seawolf Ski Team, which would eventually take me all over the world.

After spending some time racing the NCAA racing circuit, and kick starting my degree in Accounting, I went on to transfer across the street to Alaska Pacific University, where I teamed up with the strongest cross country development team in the United States. Shortly after joining, I was named to the United States National Ski Team.

For the following ten years I went on to complete a double major in Accounting and Nonprofit Business Management at Alaska Pacific University as well as starting my master’s degree in Business. Outside of studying, my world became ski racing. After making the national team, I slowly climbed the ladder to become one of the best skiers in the world. I hung up my race bib this past spring having competed in two Olympics, winning a World Championship Medal, 12 World Cup medals, and having been the first American Woman to ever lead the World Cup racing circuit. I have always felt that the mark you leave in sports is not the medals you win, but the impact you have in the process. I dedicated a big part of myself to helping lead a team that committed not just to personal goals, but to the goals of the entire team. As a young girl, my parents taught me you should always leave something nicer than when you found it, and I believe I was able to do so.

In my final years of racing, I balanced the intense focus on sport by investing my time in various jobs. My first stop was starting my own bookkeeping business, where I was quickly motivated to learn more. I then went on to working in the public accounting world for Swalling and Associates, where I caught the CPA bug. Before I knew it, I was studying for the four-part CPA exam. I have thoroughly enjoyed the deeper understanding and organization of numbers.

When I learn new things, I am most inspired by the application of the principles I can share with those around me. Through my bookkeeping business, I have learned that numbers are only as powerful as the stories they tell, and the goals they support. With an appreciation for organization and order, I recently found my niche in the financial planning world. I love the process of looking at someone’s finances and goals from the top down. By looking at the whole picture, you can best set yourself up for success.

As the newest Associate Financial Advisor, I look forward to learning and growing with the AWMI team. I’m happy to contribute the skills I learned through my athletic and academic careers to the process of helping clients achieve their financially confident futures.
