I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and a Minor in Accounting from Western State Colorado University in May of 2015. I had been spending the past four years of college competing across the nation in multiple disciplines of downhill skiing while pursuing my degree. After graduation, I completed my internship with the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority, Trust Land Office. Upon finishing five months of intern work, I decided it was time to explore part of the world before pursuing my career.
Number one on my list, hiking through Patagonia. After hearing endless stories of how beautiful the mountains of Southern Chile and Argentina were, I had to check it out. I packed a backpack and spent weeks living out of a tent and hostels with a good friend. Stop number two, skiing in Japan. If you have heard the legend of Japanese snow, let me tell you first hand, it’s true. I rented a house in the Hakuba Valley and spent every day exploring the Japanese Alps of Honshu while reveling in the culture.
As a lifelong Alaskan, it’s no surprise my plan was to return home to start my career. I landed my first job upon returning to Alaska at a logistics company in Anchorage. I had reached out to a family friend who I consider a mentor to help me get my start in business. Over the course of two years, I found the most rewarding part of my job was to help my clients achieve their goals. As I started to lean more towards pursuing continued education in finance, I came across a job posting at APCM Wealth Management for Individuals.
When I saw the job posting, I knew I had to apply. Here was a chance to put myself in a position to help people, while pursuing continuing education in finance, and working with a team of experts whose values align with my own. At nearly one month as an Associate Financial Planner at AWMI, I am thrilled as ever to be a part of this diverse team.
