Amazing, Empowering and Supporting Each Other

This blog is dedicated to all the online learning support grandmas, the next-door angels taking care of their community and the career women burning the candle at both ends. Covid-19 disproportionately affects women and we know Alaskan women are amazing.

It has been almost 30 years since I came to Alaska as a young woman looking for an adventure. Not only did I find the adventure that would last a lifetime, I also found an amalgamation of ladies I am privileged to call my community. I have met female dog mushers, bush pilots, whalers, and a whole cadre of ‘tough as nails’ professional women. It is with their support that my partner and I collaborated to open APCM Wealth Management for Individuals, which strives every day to break down barriers for access to financial planning for women on our terms.

It is that same support that I believe will see us through the pandemic and bring us closer together. Each of us brings a unique set of skills to share. We are the CEOs of ourselves and we should give ourselves permission to outsource and delegate. We don’t have to do it all ourselves, sending out so much of our energy; always giving outward. We know that our clients reduce financial stress by delegating to us. This pandemic has highlighted why now is a good time to relook at your finances and retirement plan. First, having a plan is wonderful, it’s the updating along the way that confirms you are on track and lessens your stress. Secondly, we are finding rare financial opportunities that have evolved in reaction to Covid-19; Roth Conversions, RMD and QCD planning and gifting strategies just to name a few.

I am including some resources for women that I have found online and in our community. We can empower others by sharing, leaning in to each other for support during trying times, as this pandemic is definitely stressful. Self-care is not selfish and self-appreciation means taking care of ourselves. We can advocate for each other, set boundaries, and most of all, stay connected as we get through this social distancing separation. Keep being amazing, stay connected, and let’s get through this together.
